FAQs

iSee Ohio’s school-based vision clinics are run by volunteer Doctor(s) of Optometry at schools and are intended for K-12 students who are not getting care anywhere else.

During a school-based vision clinic, students receive a comprehensive eye exam. Students who need glasses are able to select a pair from a frame kit. These services are provided at no cost to students, families or schools, so you do not have to worry about billing or payments.

No! iSee Ohio provides you with a full lane of portable ophthalmic equipment. All you need to bring are your preferred dilating drops.

Great question! You have two options to volunteer for a school-based vision clinic.

Option A: Volunteer at a clinic. These clinics are held over two consecutive days, and you can volunteer for a half-day, full-day or both days.

Option B: Run a clinic: These are typically held for a half-day or a full-day. They also require attending 3-4 remote meetings that usually last 15-30 minutes.

More details are available here.

Absolutely! Staff are welcome to participate and are eligible to receive compensation if they are volunteering their time.

Glad you asked. While you are technically a volunteer, Doctor(s) of Optometry are eligible to receive up to 16 hours per 2-year cycle in general optometry continuing education credits, or a stipend to cover the costs of non-clinical services, such as transporting and setting up the equipment, attending meetings and filling out paperwork.

“I have both run a clinic and volunteered at someone else’s. Overall, volunteering at these clinics is so incredibly rewarding. I like to think that in just a few hours, I touched so many lives of children who may never get to have this experience again. If it changes the course of even one child, then it was so worth it.”
