Our Work

iSee Ohio helps children meet their full potential by improving access to quality, comprehensive eye care in their communities... because every child deserves to see.

Why Our Work Matters
80% of learning comes through visual pathways (or through vision).
Only 15% of children have a comprehensive eye exam before starting kindergarten.
25% of children have an undiagnosed vision disorder.
Less than 20% of school-aged children who fail vision screenings in Ohio receive follow-up eye care.

Over 80% of students seen at our clinics require eyeglasses.

iSee Ohio School-Based Vision Clinics
iSee Ohio sets up in-school vision clinics in under-resourced communities across the state, where volunteer optometrists provide free, comprehensive eye exams. iSee Ohio then offers prescription eyeglasses at no cost to students who need them.
By operating in schools, iSee Ohio’s clinics remove significant barriers to care, including transportation challenges, parents missing work and limited access to eye care providers.
This ensures that all children have the opportunity to see clearly and succeed in school.
Investing in and Recognizing Ohio’s Doctors of Optometry
iSee Ohio recognizes the lifelong dedication, passion and high level of excellence at which Ohio’s optometrists perform. Through their volunteerism, humanitarian efforts and tireless energy for the profession, thousands of Ohioans have received comprehensive eye health care.
Established in 2013, the John and Cheryl Archer Award for Humanitarian Service recognizes optometrists who have spent their lives demonstrating extraordinary dedication to improving the lives of others in a benevolent way.
The award was renamed in 2021 to honor Drs. Cheryl and John, who helped establish the Foundation and have spent their careers enhancing the profession, supporting optometry students and providing eye care for those most in need.
